How many Ayat does Surah Al-Falaq have?
Surah Al-Falaq contains exactly 5 Ayat. It is the 113th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Meccan (Makki), and it is located in Juz 30. It is one of the shortest Surahs, yet carries one of the most powerful protections for the believer.
Why was Surah Al-Falaq revealed?
Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas were revealed together after a specific incident. A Jewish sorcerer named Lubayd ibn al-A'sam cast a magic spell on the Prophet (ﷺ) using a knotted cord hidden in a well. The Prophet (ﷺ) fell ill, and Jibreel (Gabriel) came to him and revealed these two Surahs. The Prophet (ﷺ) recited them, and the knots were undone one by one until the magic was destroyed.
This is why the two Surahs are called Al-Mu'awwidhatayn — the two protectors. They are a direct divine weapon against sihr (magic), hasad (jealousy), and every form of unseen harm.

What are the three things we seek refuge from in Surah Al-Falaq?
Surah Al-Falaq seeks refuge in Allah from three specific categories of evil:
• Verse 2 — The evil of all created things (“from the evil of that which He created”)
• Verse 3 — The evil of the darkness when it settles (“and from the evil of darkness when it settles”) — night is when harm, thieves, and evil forces spread
• Verse 4 — The evil of the blowers on knots (“and from the evil of the blowers in knots”) — those who practice magic and sorcery
• Verse 5 — The evil of the envier when he envies (“and from the evil of an envier when he envies”) — jealousy is one of the root causes of evil done to others
Together these cover the four main sources of harm: general creation, the night, sorcery, and human jealousy.

Why does jealousy (hasad) get mentioned specifically in the Surah?
Jealousy (hasad) is the root of many sins and harms in this world. It was jealousy that caused Iblis to refuse to prostrate to Adam, and jealousy that caused the first murder — when Qabil killed Habil. The Prophet (ﷺ) warned: “Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood.” (Abu Dawud)
The envier's glance can cause real harm — the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The evil eye is real.” (Sahih Muslim 2187). That is why Surah Al-Falaq specifically mentions the envier, teaching the believer that jealousy is a spiritual weapon that can only be defeated by turning to Allah.

Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I recite Surah Al-Falaq in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the protection, reward, and spiritual effect come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily adhkar and protection, the Arabic must be recited.
