Frequently Asked Questions about Surah Al-Baqarah

Everything you need to know about the longest Surah of the Qur'an

What are the benefits of reading Surah Al-Baqarah?
Surah Al-Baqarah is the longest Surah in the Qur'an and carries extraordinary blessings. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

• Shaytan does not enter the house where it is recited (Sahih Muslim 780)
• It intercedes on the Day of Judgment — coming as a cloud pleading for its reciters (Sahih Muslim 805)
• The last two verses suffice the reciter at night — protection from harm until morning (Sahih Bukhari 5009)
• Magicians cannot overpower it — the Prophet (ﷺ) said the devils flee from the house where it is recited (Sahih Muslim 804)
• Ayat al-Kursi (255) — the greatest verse in the Qur'an; whoever recites it before sleeping is guarded by an angel until morning (Sahih Bukhari 2311)
• Ten specific ayat for protection — the first four, Ayat al-Kursi, the two after it, and the last three — Shaytan will not enter that house at night

Reciting it daily builds spiritual protection, strengthens faith, and brings barakah into the home.
When is the best time to recite Surah Al-Baqarah?
Surah Al-Baqarah may be recited at any time of the day or night. Common practices include:

• Daily recitation in portions — many Muslims divide it over several days as part of a 30-day Qur'an reading schedule
• Before sleeping — reciting the last two verses (285–286) suffices the reciter at night (Sahih Bukhari 5009)
• Ayat al-Kursi (255) before sleeping — an angel guards the reciter until morning
• In the home regularly — to keep Shaytan away and bring blessings
• On Fridays — especially recommended for increased reward
• During difficult times — for protection, patience, and clarity

You do not need to recite it all in one sitting — a consistent portion each day is better than an occasional full recitation without reflection.
Is this Surah Baqarah PDF file free to download?
Yes — the PDF is completely free. There is no payment, subscription or sign-up required. You may download it, print it, and share it with family and friends for personal and non-commercial use.
Can I read Surah Baqarah PDF offline on mobile devices?
Absolutely. Once downloaded, the file is stored on your phone or tablet and works without an internet connection. It opens in any standard PDF reader (Adobe Acrobat, Google Drive, WPS, Files by Google, iBooks, etc.).
How many Ayat does Surah Al-Baqarah have?
Surah Al-Baqarah contains exactly 286 Ayat, making it the longest Surah in the entire Qur'an. It has 40 Ruku (sections) and spans across Juz 1, 2, and 3. It also contains the longest verse in the Qur'an (verse 282 — Ayat ad-Dayn) and the greatest verse (verse 255 — Ayat al-Kursi).
What is Ayat al-Kursi and why is it special?
Ayat al-Kursi is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah — widely known as the “Greatest Verse of the Qur'an.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said that whoever recites it before sleeping, Allah appoints an angel to guard him until he wakes up (Sahih Bukhari 2311). It describes Allah's:

• Absolute sovereignty — “Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence”
• Eternal knowledge — “Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep”
• Complete ownership — “To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth”
• Infinite power — “His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth”

It is one of the most powerful verses for protection, and it is highly recommended to recite it after every prayer and before sleep.
What are the "Last Two Ayat" of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)?
These two verses (285–286) are the closing verses of Surah Al-Baqarah and carry enormous blessing. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.” (Sahih Bukhari 5009 · Sahih Muslim 807)

They affirm:
• Belief in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers
• Complete submission to Allah — “We hear and we obey”
• Acknowledgment that Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity
• A comprehensive du'a for forgiveness, mercy, and victory

Reciting these two verses before sleeping brings protection and sufficiency until morning.
Why is Surah Al-Baqarah called the "Heart of the Qur'an"?
Surah Al-Baqarah is often called the heart of the Qur'an because it contains the complete blueprint of Islamic life. It establishes:

• Core beliefs (Tawheed) — belief in Allah, angels, prophets, and the Hereafter
• Stories of previous prophets — Adam, Ibrahim, Musa (peace be upon them)
• Legal rulings — on prayer, fasting, marriage, divorce, inheritance, charity, and the prohibition of interest (riba)
• Moral teachings — patience, gratitude, justice, and sincerity
• Ayat al-Kursi — the greatest verse in the Qur'an
• The last two verses — among the most beloved du'as of the Prophet (ﷺ)

Every major theme of the Qur'an is embedded within Surah Al-Baqarah — that is why it is called the heart of the Book.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Al-Baqarah in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward, intercession, and protection come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For the promised protection of your home and nightly sufficiency, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “255” for Ayat al-Kursi, or “286” for the closing verse)
• English keyword (e.g. “charity” or “patience”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
