✦ Virtue of Surah At-Tur: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Surah At-Tur, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every person who believed in the Day of Judgment and every person who denied it, and he will be among those who are safe on the Day of Judgment.” (Reported in Thawab al-A'mal). Surah At-Tur is called “The Mount” because it opens with the divine oath by Mount Sinai (Tur), the mountain where Musa (AS) spoke with Allah. The Surah contains some of the most powerful descriptions of Paradise and Hell in the Qur'an — the gardens with fruits and springs, the beautiful companions, and the reclining on adorned couches on the Day of Judgment.

How many Ayat does Surah At-Tur have?
Surah At-Tur contains exactly 49 Ayat. It is the 52nd Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Meccan (Makki), and it is located entirely in Juz 27. It opens with five divine oaths — by the Mount (Sinai), the Book, the inhabited House (the Kaaba or the heavenly house), the elevated ceiling (the heavens), and the sea filled with flame.
Why is Surah At-Tur called "The Mount"?
The Surah is named At-Tur (The Mount) after its opening verse:

“By the mount...” (52:1)

The word at-tur refers specifically to Mount Sinai (Tur Sina) — the mountain where Musa (AS) spoke with Allah and received the Torah. It is mentioned in the Qur'an multiple times as a place of divine revelation. The Surah opens with five sacred oaths:
1. The Mount (At-Tur) — Mount Sinai where Allah spoke to Musa
2. The Book inscribed — the revealed scriptures written on parchment
3. The Home inhabited (Al-Bayt Al-Ma'mur) — the Kaaba on earth and its counterpart in heaven, where angels worship
4. The elevated ceiling (As-Saqf Al-Marfu') — the heavens raised above the earth
5. The sea filled with flame (Al-Bahr Al-Masjur) — the oceans which will become fire on the Day of Judgment

Allah swears by these five sacred signs to establish the certainty of the Day of Judgment. The name teaches that just as these great signs are real and honoured, so too is the promise of resurrection and the Day of Judgment.
What is the meaning of verse 21 of Surah At-Tur?
Verse 21 is one of the most beautiful verses about family reunion in the Hereafter:

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَيْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ

“And those who have believed and whose descendants followed them in faith — We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.” (52:21)

This verse teaches three profound truths:
1. Righteous children are reunited with their parents in Paradise — “We will join with them their descendants” — even if the children's deeds are less than the parents', Allah raises them to the parents' level as a reward
2. No reward is lost — “We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds” — the parents' good deeds remain fully rewarded
3. Personal accountability remains — “Every person, for what he earned, is retained” — reunion is only for the righteous, and each soul is responsible for its own faith

Ibn Kathir said: “This verse is a great comfort for believing parents. If their children follow them in faith, they will be reunited in Paradise — even if the children's ranks are lower, Allah will raise them to be with their parents.” This verse is often recited to encourage Muslim parents to raise righteous children.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah At-Tur in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily recitation, the special reward for every believer in the Day of Judgment, and the safety on that Day, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “1” for the opening, “21” for the reunion verse, or “48” for the closing)
• English keyword (e.g. “mount” or “descendants”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
