How many Ayat does Surah Al-Fath have?
Surah Al-Fath contains exactly 29 Ayat. It is the 48th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Madinan (Madani), and it is located entirely in Juz 26. It was revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH — a treaty that appeared to be a setback but was declared by Allah as “a clear victory.”
Why is Surah Al-Fath called "The Victory"?
The Surah is named Al-Fath (The Victory) after its opening verse:

“Indeed, We have given you a clear victory.” (48:1)

The context of this revelation is the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH. The Prophet (ﷺ) and 1,400 Companions set out to perform Umrah, but were stopped at Hudaybiyyah by the Quraysh. After negotiation, the Prophet (ﷺ) agreed to a treaty that appeared unfavourable to the Muslims — no Umrah that year, and some conditions that the Companions found difficult to accept. Umar (RA) even questioned: “Is this a victory?”

But Allah revealed this Surah, declaring it a clear victory. The reasoning:
1. The treaty ended years of war — establishing peace between the Muslims and Quraysh
2. It allowed the free spread of Islam — for the first time, the Arabs could meet the Muslims and hear the Qur'an without the barrier of war. Within two years, more people entered Islam than in the entire 19 years before
3. It led to the conquest of Makkah — two years later, the Quraysh broke the treaty, and the Prophet (ﷺ) conquered Makkah peacefully
4. It fulfilled the vision of the Prophet (ﷺ) — verse 27 — the dream of entering Makkah in safety was fulfilled the next year

The Surah teaches that what appears to be a setback may be a victory, and that Allah's plan is always better than human calculation.
What is the meaning of verse 4 of Surah Al-Fath?
Verse 4 contains one of the most beautiful verses about tranquillity and faith:

هُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ السَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ ۗ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

“It is He who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [present] faith. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allah Knowing and Wise.” (48:4)

This verse teaches:
1. Sakinah comes from Allah alone — tranquillity of the heart is a gift from Allah, not earned by human effort
2. Faith can increase and decrease — “that they would increase in faith along with their present faith” — faith is not static; it grows
3. Sakinah is the means of increasing faith — when the heart is at peace, it can receive more faith
4. Allah's power is absolute — “to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth”

Ibn al-Qayyim said: “Sakinah is one of the greatest gifts of Allah to the believers. It is a spiritual calmness that descends upon the heart in times of difficulty, giving it strength to endure and faith to increase.” This verse is often recited during times of anxiety, fear, and trial.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Al-Fath in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily recitation, the special reward of the Hudaybiyyah companions, and the tranquillity of the heart, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “1” for the clear victory, “4” for the sakinah verse, or “29” for the Companions verse)
• English keyword (e.g. “victory” or “tranquillity”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
