✦ Virtue of Surah Qaf: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Surah Qaf, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every person who believed in the resurrection and every person who denied it, and he will be among those who are safe on the Day of Judgment.” (Reported in Thawab al-A'mal). The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite Surah Qaf in the Fajr prayer on Fridays, along with Surah Al-Qamar (Sahih Muslim 891). Surah Qaf is one of the great Meccan Surahs and carries unique virtue. Its benefits include:

• Reward for every believer and disbeliever in the resurrection — the Prophet (ﷺ) said whoever recites it will receive ten good deeds for every person who believed in the resurrection and every person who denied it
• Safety on the Day of Judgment — narrations mention the reciter will be among those who are safe on that Day
• Recited by the Prophet (ﷺ) in Fajr on Fridays — the Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite Surah Qaf and Surah Al-Qamar in the Fajr prayer on Friday (Sahih Muslim 891)
• Contains the verse on Allah's nearness — verse 16 — “We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein”
• Contains the description of the recording angels — verses 17–18 — the two angels who record every deed
• Establishes the reality of resurrection — verses 1–15 — refuting the disbelievers' denial
• Contains the command to remind, not to compel — verse 45 — “So remind, [O Muhammad], by the Qur'an, [of] those who fear My warning”
• Describes the Day of Judgment vividly — verses 20–35 — the blowing of the trumpet and the gathering

Reciting it daily builds certainty in the Hereafter, awareness of Allah's nearness, and consciousness of every deed.
When is the best time to recite Surah Qaf?
Surah Qaf may be recited at any time of the day or night. Common practices include:

• Fajr prayer on Friday — the Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite Surah Qaf and Surah Al-Qamar in Fajr on Friday (Sahih Muslim 891)
• After Fajr — many Muslims recite it in the mornings for barakah and firmness of faith
• Daily recitation in portions — as part of a complete Qur'an reading schedule (Juz 26)
• Before sleep — as part of a nightly recitation routine
• On Fridays — especially recommended for increased reward
• When reflecting on death and the Hereafter — the Surah is a powerful reminder of the resurrection
• When feeling distant from Allah — verse 16 reminds that Allah is closer to us than our own jugular vein

The key is consistency — even a few ayat daily with reflection transforms the heart.

How many Ayat does Surah Qaf have?
Surah Qaf contains exactly 45 Ayat. It is the 50th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Meccan (Makki), and it is located entirely in Juz 26. It is one of the Surahs that begin with the single disjoined letter Qaf (ق) and is famous for its powerful opening oath: “Qaf. By the honoured Qur'an.”
Why is Surah Qaf named after the letter "Qaf"?
The Surah is named Qaf after the single disjoined Arabic letter that opens it:

“Qaf. By the honoured Qur'an.” (50:1)

Scholars give several reasons for the disjoined letters (Al-Muqatta'at):
• Divine mystery — they are signs that the Qur'an is beyond human composition
• Challenge to the Arabs — made from their own letters, yet no human can produce a Surah like it
• Names of Allah — some scholars said they may be names or attributes of Allah

Some scholars have noted that Qaf is said to be the name of a great mountain that surrounds the earth in Islamic cosmology, and it may also refer to the All-Powerful (Al-Qadir) — Allah. The Surah uses this profound opening to establish the truth of the Qur'an and the certainty of the resurrection, calling the disbelievers to reflect on the signs of creation and the reality of the Hereafter.
What is the meaning of verse 16 of Surah Qaf?
Verse 16 is one of the most beautiful verses about Allah's nearness and knowledge in the Qur'an:

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ

“And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.” (50:16)

This verse teaches:
1. Allah knows every inner thought — “We know what his soul whispers to him” — even the deepest, most secret whisperings of the nafs
2. Allah is closer than the jugular vein — the jugular vein is the closest blood vessel to the heart; Allah's nearness is even closer than that
3. Allah's nearness is not physical — it is a nearness of knowledge, power, and care
4. Every secret is known to Allah — nothing escapes His awareness

Ibn al-Qayyim said: “Whoever knows that Allah is closer to him than his own jugular vein will be ashamed to sin in secret.” This verse is a powerful reminder that we are never alone, and that Allah sees and hears everything. It is often recited to build taqwa and awareness of Allah's presence.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Qaf in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily recitation, Friday Fajr prayer, and the rewards mentioned in the narrations, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “1” for the opening, “16” for the nearness verse, or “45” for the closing)
• English keyword (e.g. “resurrection” or “closer”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
