✦ Virtue of Surah Al-Mujadila: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Surah Al-Mujadila, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every person who believed in the Prophet (ﷺ) and every person who did not, and he will be among those who are safe on the Day of Judgment.” (Reported in Thawab al-A'mal). Surah Al-Mujadila is called “The Pleading Woman” because it opens with Allah's direct response to a woman — Khawlah bint Tha'labah (RA) — who came to the Prophet (ﷺ) complaining about her husband's unjust zihar divorce. Allah heard her plea and revealed verses 1–4 to establish justice for her and for all Muslim women. The Surah also contains verse 22 — the declaration that the party of Allah (Hizbullah) will be victorious.

• Before sleep — as part of a nightly recitation routine
• On Fridays — especially recommended for increased reward
• When facing injustice — the Surah opens with a woman's plea that Allah directly answered

How many Ayat does Surah Al-Mujadila have?
Surah Al-Mujadila contains exactly 22 Ayat. It is the 58th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Madinan (Madani), and it is located entirely in Juz 28. It opens with Allah's direct response to a woman's plea — an extraordinary honour for Muslim women — and closes with the declaration that the party of Allah will be victorious.
Why is Surah Al-Mujadila called "The Pleading Woman"?
The Surah is named Al-Mujadila (The Pleading Woman) after the story of Khawlah bint Tha'labah (RA), a woman whose husband Aws ibn al-Samit pronounced the pre-Islamic zihar divorce on her — declaring her “like the back of my mother,” meaning she was forbidden to him but not free to remarry. She came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and pleaded for justice:

“Indeed, Allah has heard the words of she who pleads with you concerning her husband and complains to Allah. And Allah hears your conversation. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.” (58:1)

While she was still speaking, Allah revealed verses 1–4 — establishing justice for her, setting a kaffarah (expiation) for the zihar, and protecting all Muslim women from this unjust practice.

The Surah teaches:
1. Allah hears every plea — even the quiet voice of a distressed woman
2. Divine justice is swift — Allah directly answered her without an intermediary
3. Women's rights are protected in Islam — the pre-Islamic practice was abolished
4. Every believer can appeal to Allah — no one is too weak to be heard

The name honours this woman's faith and Allah's response to her plea.
What is the meaning of verse 22 of Surah Al-Mujadila?
Verse 22 is the closing verse of the Surah and contains the famous declaration about Hizbullah (the party of Allah):

لَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ... أُولَٰئِكَ حِزْبُ اللَّهِ ۚ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

“You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred... They are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah — they are the successful.” (58:22)

This verse teaches:
1. Faith requires loyalty — the believer's first loyalty is to Allah, above family and tribe
2. Love and hate are for Allah — the believer does not love those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger
3. Being Hizbullah is the highest honour — to be among the party of Allah
4. Hizbullah will be successful — both in this world and the Hereafter

The verse continues to describe the believers: “Allah has written within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him.” This is one of the most beloved verses for the believers — the ultimate honour of being called the party of Allah.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Al-Mujadila in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily recitation, protection on the Day of Judgment, and the special honour of being among Hizbullah, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “1” for the pleading woman, “7” for Allah's knowledge verse, or “22” for Hizbullah)
• English keyword (e.g. “pleads” or “party”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
