How many Ayat does Surah Al-Hashr have?
Surah Al-Hashr contains exactly 24 Ayat. It is the 59th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Madinan (Madani), and it is located entirely in Juz 28. It opens with the praise of Allah — everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him — and closes with the greatest gathering of Allah's beautiful names in the Qur'an (verses 22–24).
Why is Surah Al-Hashr called "The Exile"?
The Surah is named Al-Hashr (The Exile / The Banishment) after verse 2:

“It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first mobilization.” (59:2)

The context is the exile of the Banu Nadir — a Jewish tribe in Madinah who conspired with the Quraysh and the hypocrites to assassinate the Prophet (ﷺ). After their plot was discovered, the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered them to leave Madinah, and they went into exile in Khaybar and Syria.

The Surah teaches:
1. Allah's punishment for those who betray their covenants
2. The rules on fay — spoils gained without fighting, distributed for the poor, the needy, the Muhajirun and the Ansar
3. The honour of the Muhajirun — who left their homes for Allah
4. The generosity of the Ansar — who gave preference to their brothers even when in need
5. The punishment of hypocrisy — those who encouraged betrayal were themselves deceived

The name honours this historical event and the divine justice that accompanied it.
What is the significance of verses 22–24 of Surah Al-Hashr?
Verses 22–24 contain fifteen of Allah's beautiful names — the greatest gathering of divine names in three consecutive verses anywhere in the Qur'an:

Verse 22: Allah (الله), Knower of the unseen and the witnessed (عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ), the Entirely Merciful (الرَّحْمَٰنُ), the Especially Merciful (الرَّحِيمُ)

Verse 23: Allah (الله), the Sovereign (الْمَلِكُ), the Pure (الْقُدُّوسُ), the Perfection/Peace (السَّلَامُ), the Bestower of Faith (الْمُؤْمِنُ), the Overseer (الْمُهَيْمِنُ), the Exalted in Might (الْعَزِيزُ), the Compeller (الْجَبَّارُ), the Superior (الْمُتَكَبِّرُ)

Verse 24: Allah (الله), the Creator (الْخَالِقُ), the Inventor (الْبَارِئُ), the Fashioner (الْمُصَوِّرُ)

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites the last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr in the morning, seventy thousand angels will seek forgiveness for him until the evening, and if he dies that day he dies a martyr. And whoever recites them in the evening, likewise.” (Reported in al-Bayhaqi and others)

Reciting these verses with reflection builds awareness of Allah's absolute perfection and mercy. It is one of the most treasured passages of the Qur'an for daily recitation.
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Al-Hashr in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For morning and evening forgiveness through the last three verses, and the rewards mentioned in the narrations, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “2” for the exile, “9” for the Ansar verse, or “22” for the divine names)
• English keyword (e.g. “exile” or “ansar”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
