• Daily recitation in portions — as part of a complete Qur'an reading schedule (Juz 23)
• Before sleep — as part of a nightly recitation routine
• On Fridays — especially recommended for increased reward
• When facing trials and illness — the story of Ayyub (AS) teaches patience and trust in Allah

How many Ayat does Surah Sad have?
Surah Sad contains exactly 88 Ayat. It is the 38th Surah of the Holy Qur'an, classified as Meccan (Makki), and it is located entirely in Juz 23. It is one of the fourteen Surahs that begin with the disjoined letters, opening with the single Arabic letter Sad. It contains one sajdah verse (verse 24) — one of the fifteen sajdah verses in the Qur'an.
Why is Surah Sad called "Sad"?
The Surah is named Sad after the disjoined Arabic letter that opens it:

“Sad. By the Qur'an containing reminder...” (38:1)

The disjoined letters (Al-Muqatta'at) are unique to the Qur'an — they are letters of the Arabic alphabet that appear at the beginning of some Surahs. Their meaning is known only to Allah, though scholars have suggested various interpretations:
• Divine mystery — they are signs that this Book is beyond human composition
• Challenge to the Arabs — made from their own letters, yet no human can produce a Surah like it
• Names of Allah — some scholars said they may be names or attributes of Allah

The Surah then continues with the divine oath: “By the Qur'an containing reminder” — establishing the honour of the Book and the warning to those who reject it. The name honours this profound opening and its call to reflect on the Qur'an.
What is the story of Ayyub in Surah Sad?
Verses 41–44 of Surah Sad narrate the story of Prophet Ayyub (Job) (AS) — one of the greatest examples of patience in human history:

• His illness and loss — Ayyub (AS) lost his wealth, his children, and his health. His body was afflicted with a severe illness that lasted for years — some narrations say 18 years
• His patience — throughout all his trials, he never complained against Allah. He remained grateful and steadfast
• His du'a — “And [mention] Ayyub, when he called to his Lord: Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.” (21:83) — he did not complain, but simply described his state and appealed to Allah's mercy
• Allah's response — “And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers.” (38:43)
• The command to strike the ground — “Stamp [your foot] with your foot. This is a cool, refreshing bath and a drink.” (38:42) — Allah healed him through a spring of water

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The most severely tested of people are the prophets, then those closest to them.” (Tirmidhi 2398). Ayyub (AS) is the model of patience in Islam — his name is synonymous with sabr (patience) in every language. His story teaches:
1. Patience in the deepest trials — losing everything yet holding firm to faith
2. Not complaining against Allah — Ayyub's du'a was a description of his state, not a complaint
3. Allah's mercy is always near — the restoration came after the trial had served its purpose
4. Reward in the Hereafter — Allah promised him a full reward (38:44)
Which Arabic script is used in this tool?
This tool uses the Uthmani script (Madani Mushaf) with complete Tashkeel (Harakat). The font is Amiri — an industry-standard Arabic calligraphic font.
Is the English translation authentic?
Yes. This tool uses the Sahih International English translation — one of the most widely accepted, scholarly-reviewed translations of the Qur'an available in modern English.
Can I read Surah Sad in English only?
You can read the English translation to understand the meaning, but the reward and spiritual benefit come from reciting the Arabic text — as with all Surahs of the Qur'an. English is a scholarly interpretation of the meaning; the Qur'an itself is the Arabic revelation. For daily recitation, Friday recitation, and the rewards mentioned in the narrations, the Arabic must be recited.
How do I search for a specific Ayat in this tool?
Use the search box above the topic index. You can search by:
• Ayat number (e.g. type “1” for the opening, “24” for the sajdah verse, or “41” for Ayyub's story)
• English keyword (e.g. “Ayyub” or “patience”)
• Arabic text (copy-paste any Arabic word)

The list filters instantly as you type.
